Ballet of Sweet Flavors: Pavlova
Pavlova is a meringue-based dessert named after the Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. It has a crisp crust and a soft, light inside, typically topped with whipped cream and fresh fruits.
Recipe for a classic Pavlova:
Ingredients:
- 4 large egg whites, at room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Fresh fruits (such as strawberries, kiwi, and passion fruit) for topping
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a clean, dry bowl, whip the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gradually add in the sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while continuing to whip.
3. Once all the sugar is added and the mixture is glossy, fold in the vinegar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract gently.
4. Spoon the meringue onto the prepared baking sheet, forming a circular shape with slightly raised edges.
5. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and immediately reduce the temperature to 250°F (120°C). Bake for about 1 hour and 15 minutes or until the pavlova is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside.
6. Turn off the oven and let the pavlova cool completely inside with the oven door slightly ajar.
7. Once cooled, carefully transfer the pavlova to a serving plate.
8. Whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form and spread it over the pavlova.
9. Top with your favorite fresh fruits.
10. Slice and enjoy!
Remember, pavlova is versatile, so feel free to customize the toppings based on your preferences.
